WINNIPEG – Princess costumes filled Fort Garry Hotel Sunday to raise money for a good cause.

Cystic Fibrosis Canada’s Winnipeg chapter hosted its first annual Princess Ball to raise funds for life-saving research and care.

“I lost my daughter Jesse to cystic fibrosis seven years ago and for me this is something that she would have been all over,” said Joan Bechtel, the event organizer. “We called her a princess and as a matter of fact on her headstone it says ‘once there was a princess’ so for me this event is for Jesse.”

Anyone touched by cystic fibrosis dressed in their best attire at the gala, which aimed to raise $20,000.

“The more donations and research there is the more chance there will be a control and cure for CF,” said the event’s youth ambassador Kayla Hodgins, who currently lives with cystic fibrosis.
