WATCH: A pair of kayakers received quite the surprise last Friday while paddling and fishing off the coast of Palm Beach, Florida.
TORONTO – A hammerhead shark was the unwanted guest of a pair of friends from a charter kayak fishing company last Friday off the coast of Florida.
Video captured and published by Pushin’ Water Kayak Charters shows the shark trailing closely behind a lead kayak in choppy water.
“It’s not really a huge thing to see sharks,” kayaker Mark Naumovitz told The Sun-Sentinel Wednesday. “But when you have a dorsal fin trailing you like its Jaws, it’s a different story.”
At one point, the person holding the camera submerges it underwater to show just how interested the shark is in the paddlers.
“I was reminding myself there was a shark in the water and not to fall out,” Naumovitz’s friend Brian Nelli said.
The shark followed the kayaks for around three kilometres, perhaps “smelling” their catch of the day – a seven kilogram mahi-mahi.
“He may have picked up scent and followed us,” Naumovitz added in the Fort Lauderdale paper.
