‘Toy Story 4’ planned for summer 2017

Disney has announced 'Toy Story 4' will be released in 2017.

TORONTO — Woody, Buzz Lightyear and their friends are coming back to the big screen.

Disney announced Thursday it will be making a fourth Toy Story film, directed by John Lasseter (Toy Story, Toy Story 2).

“We love these characters so much; they are like family to us,” Lasseter said, in a statement. “We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before.”

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are among the actors who voiced the characters.

The Toy Story trilogy has earned nearly $2 billion worldwide.

Toy Story 3, released in 2010 and directed by Lee Unkrich, won two Oscars and was the highest-grossing animated film of all time until Frozen beat it earlier this year.
