Blue Bombers get ready for last game of the season

WINNIPEG – Another season almost over and again no playoffs for the Blue Bombers.

Only a few loyal fans came out to watch the team during their last walkthrough of the year.

“They’re part of the family, you know, we come out and watch them,” said Blue Bombers fan Roger Soens. “They’ll pay us back.”

“That’s real big to feel like you know we have something to play for and that’s the fans, that’s the city of Winnipeg,” said Blue Bombers slotback Clarence Denmark.

While the start of the season looked bright for the Bombers who were 5-1 at the end of July, things went downhill fast. After they were 6-3, the team lost eight straight games, one of longest losing streak’s in the franchise’s history.

They have also allowed a record of 70 sacks this season.

“We’re 6-11 we need to get better across the board… that’s what the off season is for,” said Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea.

Gloomy statistics aside, there is hope for next year.

“I think this room got closer with the last month and a half even though we’ve been losing,” said Blue Bombers defensive back Johnny Sears. “You play for your brother, the guy next to you and I think that’s one of the better things that happened on this year’s team.”

The team is heading to Calgary for their final game of the season on Saturday against the top ranked Stampeders. Then they will be back to pack up for a long off season.
