HALIFAX – Lorelei Nicoll, the councillor representing Cole Harbour and Westphal, is the new deputy mayor of Halifax.
She will take over from Darren Fisher, who was recently nominated as the federal Liberal Party candidate in the Dartmouth-Cole Harbour riding.
City rules allow Fisher to keep his council seat during his bid to become a Member of Parliament.
His term as deputy mayor will end on Nov. 18.
The deputy mayor position is a one-year term that includes a salary increase of nearly $8,000.
Nicoll, who has sat on council since 2008, was running against Halifax West Armdale Coun. Linda Mosher.
