Officers on leave after 2007 shooting will no longer be police: CJOB

WINNIPEG – Two police officers placed on leave after a suspect was shot four times in July 2007 will soon no longer be members of the Winnipeg Police Service, CJOB 680 reports.

Kristofer Shaun Fournier was shot four times in the buttocks following a high-speed chase through River Heights.

Constables Darrel Selley and Kristopher John Overwater were told to back off the pursuit but continued to chase Fournier, who they suspected in a nearby robbery.

A jury found Selley not guilty of attempted murder in February 2013. He and Overwater were also found not guilty of aggravated assault and obstruction of justice.

Selley and Overwater have been on administrative leave since the shooting, but sources told CJOB they soon will no longer be police. Negotiations between the police service and union representatives are almost complete, the source said.

Police told CJOB they are expecting closure on the matter in the next few weeks.
