EDMONTON – The driver involved in a crash on Yellowhead Trail that left a woman dead Sunday evening has been charged with impaired driving.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., officers responded to reported single-vehicle crash on Yellowhead Trail and Victoria Trail.
Police say a 1990 Chevrolet Corvette was travelling west on Yellowhead Trail when it lost control and rolled over on its roof, just underneath the Victoria Trail overpass.
Officers began an impaired driving investigation. Police say there was evidence that excessive speed and alcohol were factors in the collision.
The 41-year-old female passenger, who was wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.
The 47-year-old male driver was extricated and taken to hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.
Allan Dean Balay has been charged with impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.
Additional charges are pending.
