Two people injured in northeast pub shooting

CALGARY – Police are investigating a shooting at a pub in Marlborough Park.

It happened at Mr. Schnapps, in the 1400 block of 52nd Street N.E., just after 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Police say several people inside the bar were forced to leave after getting into an altercation. Shortly after, the steakhouse was peppered with bullets.

Witnesses say a man was shot outside of the bar, before rushing inside for help.

It’s alleged the shooter continued to fire at the building as the victim ran into the kitchen.

A patron inside the bar was cut by broken glass, but her injuries are also described as non-life-threatening.

Staff say the people involved have caused trouble at the eatery before.

“They’ve been a bit of a problem every now and then,” says chef Dan Laderoute. “They don’t come often, but usually when they do show up it’s not great.”

Investigators recovered several bullet casings from the ground of the parking lot.

Police say both the suspect and the victim are known to them.

“If the regular customers are freaked out, don’t worry,” says Laderoute. “I don’t think those guys are going to be coming back anytime soon.”
