Fire guts two homes in resort village

WATCH ABOVE: Two homes were destroyed in Glen Harbour after a massive fire raged through the area at about 6 p.m on Friday. The community is located about an hour outside of Regina. Global’s Steve Silva spoke with some of the families affected as they saw the scope of the damage for the very first time.

GLEN HARBOUR – Two homes were destroyed Friday evening following a house fire in the resort village of Glen Harbour.

“We’re quite lucky that this is all that we ended up losing and there wasn’t a heck of a lot more,” said resident Mark Supel, who helped put the fire out. “Knowing that this happened to the people that you know in a community that’s so close together, it was just a hard thing to take.”

According to the RCMP the fire is not believed to be suspicious. No one was injured.

One man, one of the few living in the community year-round, lost his home.

“I believe he took the news extremely hard because he’s now homeless,” said councilor Deb Kachluba.

Julie and Atilla Laszlo, who live in Regina, lost their summer home in the fire.

“Wow, I’m surprised it’s still smoldering,” said Julie, as she observed the damage Saturday afternoon.

The home was built from scratch about two decades ago by Atilla.

“I think that’s what’s so heartbreaking for me,” said Julie.

The side of Aarron Fettes’ home was damaged too, and his shed was gutted.

“I just built this shed. It was actually this weekend last year,” said Fettes with a laugh. “It’s just stuff, you can replace stuff. You can’t replace life.”
