Kris Austin is pulling for the underdog in the 2014 New Brunswick election.

The leader of the People’s Alliance of New Brunswick is currently the deputy mayor of Minto, a place he said is characterized by being both an underdog and resilient.

“I love a good underdog story, where the little guy can succeed, can triumph. And I think when you look at the community of Minto, in terms of the broader spectrum of the province, we are in many senses the underdog. We’ve lost a lot, but we’re resilient, we’re going to come back,” said Austin.

Austin is running in the new riding of Fredericton-Grand Lake, which will be contested for the first time due to last year’s redistribution of electoral boundaries.

The People’s Alliance is the province’s newest political party, with 2014 being only it’s second election. Austin, 35, co-founded the party in 2010. The party will run 18 candidates this time around, up from 14 in 2010, which resulted in just 1.18 per cent of the popular vote.
