WINNIPEG – A worker was rushed to hospital with electrical burns after cutting through an underground power line in downtown Winnipeg Monday.

It happened in the 200 block of  Hargrave Street between Ellice and Portage Avenue, where crews are working on the Centrepoint development.

“There was a loud explosion,” said Clem Trudeau, who was working at the site. “It could have been worse.”

City officials say workers were jack hammering and went through a power line.

Trudeau saw two men climb out of the hole they were working in. They didn’t appear badly injured but one of them was taken to hospital by ambulance.
