More pedestrians are being struck by vehicles in Halifax: police

HALIFAX – Halifax police say the number of pedestrians struck by vehicles jumped during August this year compared to August 2013.

Data released in reports Friday by the Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP shows 13 vehicle-pedestrian collisions occurred last month compared to five in the same month last year.

The reports also show the majority of collisions that happened between January and August occurred in crosswalks — 60 per cent in 2013 and 63 per cent in 2014.

Combined, the two police forces have recorded 143 pedestrians involved in collisions with two fatalities.
