Longueuil Police try to kickstart missing mother & son case with new reward, video

LONGUEUIL – It’s a tribute for a well-loved co-worker. A poster with photos and the words “We miss you” is located on the wall of a Westmount software company where Jian Ping Li used to work.

Those who know the Brossard mother say the last four months have been difficult.

“Anxious, nervous and angry. It’s been very long,” says Sherry Wang, a close friend of the missing woman.

Longueuil Police appear to be just as frustrated. At a news conference Thursday, they admitted the search for the missing 42-year-old Brossard resident and her infant son has come up empty.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“At this point in time today we have not been able to establish a clear lead in the investigation,” says Mario Plante from the Longueuil Police Department.

In an effort to kickstart the case, detectives have put a new reward on the table: $20,000. Investigators have also produced a new video – in Mandarin.

Jian Ping Li and her six-month-old son were last seen inside their Brossard home in the morning of April 30.

Her husband, Hong Hui Lu, claims when he came back later in the day they were both gone.

The mother left with no wallet or stroller for the child.

Police have received more than 100 tips, which triggered field searches.

In June, the backyard of the family home was dug up. In July, a phone call led police to Mont-St-Bruno.

Hong Hui Lu was not present at Thursday’s press conference.

Police say he’s collaborating with officials, but they told Global News he is not a suspect in the case.
