McDonald’s iconic ‘Golden Arches’ fall, crush cars at drive-thru

Customers at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Oklahoma may have wanted to “Biggie Size” their meals – but we’re guessing they didn’t have this in mind.

Two people in Weatherford, Oklahoma are recovering after the iconic “Golden Arches” sign came toppling down Thursday, crushing two cars waiting in the drive-thru line.

Luckily, the cars were only occupied by single drivers, both of whom escaped serious injury.

One of the drivers was 74-year-old Bertie Wells.

“All of a sudden as I was looking at the menu I sort of saw a shadow on my hood and when I looked over that pole was just almost right in my face,” Walls told Fox 25 News in Oklahoma City.

“I suddenly realized, I’m still alive and you know I need to do something here instead of sit here and scream,” she said.

The other driver was Timothy Jefferson, who says he was ordering a vanilla milkshake when he heard a loud creaking noise.

In the split-second he had to react, Jefferson managed to move just enough to avoid the direct path of the falling arches.

Emergency crews had to use specialized equipment to free Jefferson from his crushed car.

He was taken to the hospital with a fractured vertebra and has to wear a neck brace for about three months. Wells suffered cuts and bruises and had to get 12 stitches in her arm.

Police believe high winds may have contributed to the sign falling down, but as of now they have not definitively determined the cause of the accident.
