VANSCOY, Sask. – The Agrium potash mine near Vanscoy, Sask. has suspended production after an incident last Friday damaged the shaft hoist which brings ore to the surface.
It is unclear whether the breakdown was the result of human error or failed equipment.
Officials from potash operations were assessing the site on Tuesday.
It is unknown how long production will be suspended.
Around 675 people are employed at the Vanscoy site.
All are still doing odds and ends around the mine. Depending on the length of shut down, some employees may wind up with unwanted days off.
