Gazing out of their kitchen window is the thing Martha and Rodney Draffin will miss most about their home.
The Draffin’s have lived in their house for the last 25 years. They purchased it from a well known surgeon in Lethbridge, who built the house in 1939 by the same architecture firm that built the Prince of Whales Hotel in Waterton.
“I saw the house sitting there in a forlorn state and I went home and Martha , I told her about the house and she said let’s check it out and a week later we owned it,” said Rodney.
The Draffin’s have refurbished the house, but continue to maintain its integrity. However, it has become too much work for them, so they’ve have decided to sell the historical property.
“It’s been a labour of love for 25 year. Maybe it’s like raising a child, you raise it, you love it and then it’s time to let it go,” said Martha.
Real Estate agent, Justin Myer, says the home doesn’t have an actual price, as they want people to bid on it instead. “We couldn’t price a home that has this much historic value and that there is no other that’s comparable,” he said.
“We’re not putting a reserve on it, where they have to come in at certain numbers, but were also not obliged to accept any either.”
Another home in the city is also going through a similar bidding process on the south side. It was built in 1960 by local architect George Watson.
