MONTREAL – Authorities are investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed an elementary school in McMasterville early Friday morning.

The fire at Farandole School started just after 6:00 a.m. in an area behind the school at des Saules and 3rd Ave. and quickly spread to the rest of the building.
Although approximately 80 firefighters battled the fire, the 50-year-old building is likely damaged beyond repair.
The loss of the local school will affect approximately 160 students.
