WINNIPEG – A Winnipeg postal worker is dead after an apparent drowning in Lake of the Woods.
Ontario Provincial Police say Christopher Silman, 29, was last seen swimming near a cottage on Bigelow Island at about 9 p.m. on Saturday. Officers say he dove into the water and didn’t resurface. Police divers recovered his body Sunday afternoon in the same area.
Silman was a Canada Post employee in Winnipeg. Canadian Union of Postal Workers Local 856 president Ben Zorn said Silman had worked there almost ten years, was active on the Health and Safety Committee and was “definitely very well liked and respected by his fellow workers.”
“A lot of people are upset at the loss,” Zorn said.
The OPP says an autopsy was set for Monday.
