KINGSTON, Ont. – A heavy downpour today caused chaos in Kingston, flooding several streets and causing a power outage in the downtown.

Some vehicles stalled while driving through the flooded streets, prompting Kingston police to remind drivers to slow down and drive with caution.

Many streets that were closed have reopened, except in the west end at Gardiners Road near Golden Mile and Development Drive.

There are reports that one downtown street – Queen Street at Ontario – was filled with water 45 centimetres deep.

Power has been restored to many parts of the downtown, however some areas were still in the dark this afternoon.

Utilities Kingston is advising homeowners whose basements have flooded to stay out of the ground floor until the water subsides.
