Saskatchewan’s May unemployment rate lowest in Canada

OTTAWA – Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate continues to be the lowest in Canada.

Statistics Canada reported Friday the unemployment rate in the province for May was 3.7 per cent, an increase of 0.3 percentage points from the previous month.

The province gained 6,200 new full-time positions while the number of people working part-time fell by 4,400.

Overall, 563,100 people were working in Saskatchewan in May.

The unemployment rate increased despite the job gains as more people entered the workforce during the month.

Nationally, the unemployment increased 0.1 percentage points to 7.0 percent.
