WATCH: Soccer rivals take to the pitch in Sheep World Cup

Residents in a small Colombian town on Sunday held a soccer match between the two soccer-crazed nations featuring some unlikely players.

Wearing team jerseys, shorts and matching shoes,  two teams of sheep were herded onto a field to go head to head for sheep-soccer supremacy.

Spectators cheered as the sheep kicked a ball around the field.

Sometimes, they actually managed to score – in that regard, it was more or less like a real soccer match.

The event was held in the run up to the start of the football World Cup which begins later this month in Brazil, but also to celebrate World Ruana Day.

Ruana being the ponchos made out of wool and other materials.

The four-legged players were representing real-life players, including Brazilian players Robinho and “Hulk” who will be participating in the World Cup.

The Boyaca province, some 130 kilometers northeast of Bogota, is known for also hosting the annual sheep beauty pageant.
