WATCH: Fire in a Burnaby highrise forced the evacuation of the building. Catherine Urquhart reports.
Firefighters have extinguished a blaze on the 12th floor of a highrise in Burnaby.
The three-alarm fire broke out at the Hall Tower at 7272 Kingsway just after 2:30 p.m. The building is affordable housing for seniors and people with disabilities.
210 people have been evacuated, and two people have been taken hospital after they were rescued from their suites. Their conditions are unknown at this time. 41 firefighters were on scene at the height of the blaze. Firefighters remain on scene to make sure there are no hot spots.
In 2010, there was a fire on the eighth floor of the building. Three elderly people were taken to hospital in that blaze, one in critical condition.
Kingsway is closed both ways between Hall Ave and Edmonds St.
