History

NDP candidate and school board trustee Catherine Fife won a by-election to replace the departing Elizabeth Witmer, defeating PC candidate Tracey Weiler by more than 3,500 votes. Witmer had held the seat since 1990, when it was known as Waterloo North, prevailing in close races over Liberal candidates. The NDP and Liberals have done their best in the areas around the University of Waterloo, while the PCs have done best in the neighbourhoods on the city outskirts.
