MONTREAL – Police are saying they fear for the life of a 33-year-year-old cyclist who was caught under the wheels of a large tow truck in downtown Montreal on Friday morning.
The accident took place at the corner of St. Urbain Street and De Maisonneuve Boulevard, when the truck was making a right turn onto De Maisonneuve.
Police spokesperson Dany Richler said that witnesses interviewed at the scene reported that the cyclist tried to stop, but ran into the back of the vehicle and then fell beneath.
He confirmed that the driver of the truck is at the scene, talking with investigators.
The accident comes the day after the city announced measures to better protect cyclists in Montreal following the tragic death of a cyclist in April.
