In regular speed, it looks like a fine goal. But slow it down, and you understand why Canadian forward Geoff Platt’s unreal goal has become a viral sensation.
That’s the reaction many are having after watching this unbelievable goal from Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League.
The player in question is Canadian-born centre Geoff Platt, a Toronto native who plays for the KHL’s Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.
With his team down 3-1 in game five of the KHL’s Western Conference final against Lev Prague Thursday night, Platt takes a pass in front of the opposing goal.
What follows is a physics-defying goal that you need slow motion to truly appreciate.
Platt takes the pass, chips the puck into the air, keeps the puck airborne, and then somehow bats it into the back of the net.
Despite this incredible bit of stick handling, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl was unable to put any more points on the board, and lost the game 3-2.
