The Terwillegar recreation centre closed unexpectedly Monday afternoon due to electrical issues, and will be closed for the rest of the day.
The arena in the centre remains open, but the fitness area, pool, children’s area, gym and track are closed.
The contractor who built the brand new facility conducted a routine test Sunday night to make sure everything was running correctly.
During the test, they discovered electrical deficiencies and had to work into Monday to fix the problems, said City of Edmonton spokeswoman Jennifer Juchli.
No details were available about the type of electrical deficiencies.
The contractor will turn the power on again at midnight Monday night. If everything is working properly, the centre will be open again on Tuesday.
