GATINEAU, Que. – Quebec’s government has invited residents, businesses and municipalities affected by severe flooding between June 23 and June 25 to apply for an emergency financial aid program.

Two days of torrential downpour caused road washouts in more than 40 locations from Eardley in the west to Cantley in the east and as far north as Lac Philippe. The washouts forced the evacuation of about 600 people in Gatineau and as many as 200 campers in the Lac Philippe area.

City of Gatineau spokesman Alain d’Entremont said the city is still calculating the cost of the flood damage and will apply for millions of dollars in aid.

"As a city we’re talking a minimum of about $2 million and still rising," he said.

The City of Gatineau invited residents affected by the flooding to a public information session at city hall Tuesday evening.
