Over 9 per cent of Quebecers voted on first day of advance polling

MONTREAL – By the end of the first day of advance polling, over nine per cent of Quebecers had already exercised their right to vote.

Quebec’s Chief Electoral Officer, Jacques Drouin confirmed that 561,872 electors had voted in advance polls on Sunday.

This figure is up .78 per cent from 2012, where by comparison, 507,913 electors had taken part in advance polling by the end of the first day, with a turnout rate of 8.61 per cent.

A total of 8,583 students voted in their educational institutions on Sunday.

The highest turnouts were registered in the electoral divisions of Outremont (1,026), Jean-Talon (929), Westmount–Saint-Louis (533), Sainte-Marie–Saint-Jacques (437) and Sherbrooke (404).

The counting of the votes cast during advance polling will take place on election night on April 7. Votes from outside the electoral division will be counted at the main office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
