WINNIPEG — It wasn’t a petition that kept Robin Thicke from going to the 2014 Junos, it was his voice. The multiple Juno award-nominee won’t be attending or performing at the Canadian music event because he has been placed on mandatory vocal rest. This has also forced him to postpone and reschedule his shows Friday and Saturday night.
Junos Executive Producer John Brunton says the announcement will not impact the show, adding viewers will be treated to a fantastic broadcast and a few surprises as well.
Last week, 800 people signed a petition trying to ban Thicke from the Junos for his music video “Blurred Lines” — which has been viewed almost 300 million times on Youtube.
According to the petition, the video “Blurred Lines” contributes to rape culture in a number of ways.
The Junos begin at 8pm Sunday.
