Crystal Mountain pulls the plug on season

WEST KELOWNA — Crystal Mountain in West Kelowna has pulled the plug on the rest of the season.

The ski hill has been closed since March 1 after one of its chairlifts malfunctioned, sending three chairs to the ground, injuring four people.

Crystal Mountain says they’re closing early because the investigation is still ongoing and will likely extend into next month.

“Pending the scope of the investigation, it seemed unrealistic to try and rush the process to be open for just a couple of days,” says GM, Mike Morin.

The injured have been released from hospital. It was revealed last week by the BC Safety Authority that the tensioning system wasn’t working properly.

The mountain was scheduled to close March 23. Season pass holders will receive credit towards a pass for next year.
