Expanded from the highly successful 3-day festival in 2016, this year’s Ryga Festival is 5 days of music, spoken word, theatre, poetry, and workshops, showcasing performers, writers, and artists from the Okanagan and across Canada. This year includes the premiere of a one-woman show by singer/composer Ann Mortifee and by popular demand, the return of acclaimed jazz artist Campbell Ryga. The festival is inspired by George Ryga, whose play “The Ecstasy of Rita Joe” was premiered to national critical acclaim in 1967 and remains the best-selling Canadian play of all time. He worked on his manual typewriter in a Summerland farmhouse.
