Celebrating Local Composers with the CMS Monday Band a CMS Series ConcertThe Cosmopolitan Music Society (CMS) is pleased to announce this special evening of music celebrating the works of local composers as part of the CMS Series of shows. The CMS Monday band will perform this concert of original compositions Sunday, April 9 at the Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre (OSPAC) 8426 Gateway Boulevard. The repertoire reflects the character of the city of Edmonton – multicultural, high energy, and interspersed with intense moments of beauty and contemplation. The show features five world premiere performances, as well as performances of established masterworks for band by Edmonton’s own Allan Gilliland and John Estacio. Works from local composers: Taran Plamondon, Joseph Lai, Jared Samborski, Patricia Gauci, Roger Deegan, and Rhea Shank will also be featured. Early bird tickets are $20 until April 6, $25 thereafter. Kids Can Catch Ice Fishing!Always wanted to try ice fishing but just don't have the know-how? This FREE event is for you! How does it work? Park at Waterfront Park located at the end of 50th Street in the Village of Wabamun. Bring a toboggan to pull your folding chairs, snacks and extra jackets to the event on the ice. Sign in at the TransAlta/ACA registration tent. Pick up a loaner ice fishing rod and fishing tips from Cabela’s. Find a pre-drilled ice fishing hole and drop a line. Ask roving fishing mentors for help with your rod and reel, ice fishing tips, and how safely handle and release fish. Afraid you’ll get a little chilly? Warm up with free hot chocolate care of Parkland County and try fishing from inside a Cabela’s ice fishing tent. There are hot dogs and snacks for hungry anglers, thanks to Wabamun Chamber and ATB. Bring your skates and hockey sticks, too. The Village of Wabamun will clear a skating oval and rink for pond hockey on the lake.
