Quebec man granted new trial after 33 years behind bars
Description
July 17, 2026
A Quebec man who was recently released after spending more than three decades behind bars has cleared a major legal hurdle. The federal justice minister has ordered a new trial for Daniel Jolivet, after finding reasonable grounds to believe there may have been a miscarriage of justice. The 69 year old spent 33 years in prison after being convicted in 1994 of killing four people in Brossard. As Elizabeth Zogalis reports, Jolivet and his lawyer see it as a step towards finally finding justice.
