Rota resigns as Canada’s House Speaker over tribute to Nazi unit veteran

House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota announced his resignation during question period on Tuesday, amid international controversy over his recognition of a Ukrainian war veteran who fought in a Nazi unit during the Second World War. “I reiterate my profound regret for my error in recognizing an individual in the House,” Rota said. “I accept full responsibility for my actions.”
