Freeland warns Poilievre’s past calls to fire BOC governor were ‘reckless and irresponsible’

Deputy Prime Minister and finance minister Chrystia Freeland warned on Wednesday that Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre’s past calls for the Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem to be fired were “reckless and irresponsible.” She added that “our government wants to reiterate that we stand firmly for the independence of the Bank of Canada.”
