It is pride weekend in Calgary, but as the LGBTQ2+ community prepares to celebrate, many are doing so under a cloud of anxiety. Police in the province say they’ve seen an increase in protests and hate-motivated attacks this year, prompting heightened security at several events this weekend. But as Heather Yourex-West explains, their best protection could have people turning out in strong numbers.
