Skwlāx band members say last Friday’s wildfire in the Shuswap was unlike anything they’d ever seen. The afternoon started like any other before word of an evacuation alert, then an order, arrived. In a matter of hours, fire was all around them, and the chief says he accepted that night might be his last. Catherine Urquhart reports.
