At least 283 people in Bangladesh have died in 2023 alone after contracting dengue fever, setting a record death toll for the mosquito-borne disease, which as of 2022, was 281. As of Thursday, 37,000 people have become infected with the virus — more than half of which are from the capital of Dhaka — causing a severe struggle for space in hospitals across the country.
