Vancouver fire chief says fire risk of DTES encampment among reasons for removal

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services Chief Karen Fry says she is concerned by the "persistent fire risk" posed by the encampment on East Hastings Street. Speaking at a Wednesday press conference on the eviction of the encampment, Fry says there has been a 17 per cent increase in outdoor fires between January and February compared to the same time last year.
