Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy on Thursday said a grand jury has handed down indictments against five former Memphis police officers in the killing of Black motorist Tyre Nichols following a violent traffic stop on Jan. 7. Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills, Jr., Emmitt Martin III and Justin Smith each face charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression.
