Manitoba Métis Foundation President David Chartrand reacted on Wednesday to the vandalism of the Louis Riel headstone near the St. Boniface Cathedral saying “only a weak person would think to attack as someone’s grave as they cannot defend themselves.” Chartrand and many other community leaders attended the monument to commemorate the 132nd anniversary of Riel’s execution in Regina. Winnipeg police announced they are investigating the act as a hate crime.
