NASA DART mission deflects asteroid in world’s 1st planetary defence test with spacecraft collision

NASA’s DART spacecraft has successfully collided with an asteroid called Dimorphos on Monday, in an unprecedented dress rehearsal for the day an asteroid truly threatens Earth. As a test of NASA’s ability to defend our planet against future asteroids and other Earth-bound debris, it will offer scientists a way to measure the effectiveness of the collision.
