Next year, the Canadian Screen Awards will drop gender-based categories in a big change for one of Canada’s most prestigious events recognizing top talent in film, television and digital media. Until now, some trans and non-binary actors have been shut out of contention, but as Dan Spector reports, some advocates say there is still a long way to go.
