Statistics Canada Chief Éric Caron Malenfant said on Wednesday that according to the 2021 census, the number of people who speak languages other than the country’s official English or French is growing at a “faster rate” than before. The proportion of Canadians who speak or know French has been declining over the past few decades, he added.
