At a heritage committee meeting regarding Hockey Canada on Tuesday, Sport Canada senior director Michel Ruest told MPs that the organization was aware of an alleged sexual assault tied to a Hockey Canada event in 2018 but did not inform the sports minister’s office. Sports Minister Pascale St-Onge later defended Sport Canada, saying they “did not know the scope of what happened in 2018. We got minimal information.”
