Pope Francis spoke with reporters aboard his plane on Sunday as he travelled to Canada for a trip focused on Indigenous reconciliation. “Let us be careful on this journey, which, as I said, is a trip of penance,” he said to reporters. The pope plans to visit the site of a former residential school during his time in Canada, while also travelling to Quebec City and Iqaluit. Indigenous delegates during their own trip to the Vatican in April told the pope they wanted an apology on Canadian soil.
