Speaking at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Thursday, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Omar Abdi pointed to “small moments of relief” for children and their families fleeing the war in Ukraine, with civilians being evacuated from Mariupol and other frontline locations. However, he said the situation in the country remains “grim” and that those fleeing the conflict have told humanitarian workers of “their living hell.”
