Over 20 years after its initial launch in 2001, Apple announced this week it would be discontinuing the iPod and its current version, the iPod Touch, bringing an end to the device that changed how people listened to music. It wasn’t the first portable mp3 player but was still considered iconic until it was eclipsed by smartphones— including Apple’s own iPhone.
