During question period at the House of Commons on Thursday, NDP MP Leah Gazan of Winnipeg Centre and her colleagues challenged Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino on Canada’s protection of Indigenous women across housing, healthcare and safety on Red Dress Day. This day of commemoration is also known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit Peoples, which first started in 2010.
