Federal government broadening scope of anti-money laundering and terrorist financing rules: Freeland
Description
February 14, 2022
Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said Monday that the federal government is broadening the scope of Canada’s anti-money laundering and terrorist financing rules as part of its effort to end the blockades at Canada-U.S. borders. Under the Emergencies Act, Freeland says, crowdfunding platforms are now required to report “large and suspicious transactions.” Banks will also now be able to “immediately freeze or suspend an account without a court order” If they believe it is helping to fund blockades.
